Understanding Fragrance Notes
Fragrance notes are the individual scents that make up a perfume's composition. They are typically organized into three layers: top notes (the first impression), heart notes (the main character), and base notes (the lasting foundation).
Each note has its own origin - whether natural (from flowers, woods, spices) or synthetic (laboratory-created molecules). Natural notes often come from specific plants, flowers, or materials, while synthetic notes can replicate natural scents or create entirely new olfactory experiences.
Notes also have distinct characteristics like longevity, intensity, and how they interact with other notes. Some are fleeting and bright (citrus), others are deep and lasting (woods), and many have cultural or emotional associations that make them particularly meaningful.
